Stone Tile Coasters

A here with a quick and easy housewarming/Christmas/just because I like you so damn much gift!  The best part is that they're infinitely personalizeable.  Most of the photos for the DIY are of a Christmas set, but that's just because I didn't think to get process shots of my other sets.  To make a set for yourself (or someone else you like) you'll need the following:

4" square stone tiles (available at Home Depot, Lowes, etc.)
Staz-On stamp pad (the brand is important for this project)
Rubber stamps
Paste Wax (Minwax makes it, and it's usually in the floor wax/stain area of a hardware store)
Clean white cloth (I use old T-shirt scraps)
Adhesive backed felt feet, 4 per tile used

First, take a damp paper towel and wipe down the tiles.  They're usually dusty and won't take ink well unless cleaned up a bit.  Then take your stamps and Staz-On ink and stamp the tiles to your heart's content.  The Staz-On is made specifically for unusual applications and won't wipe off, bleed, or come up with use.  It's also awesome for stamping on non-porous surfaces like foil stickers, etc.  When you're in the craft store, look for pads that look like this:

Once you are done getting creative, your tiles will look somewhat better than this:

See, they already look like coasters!  They won't hold up to condensating drinks yet, however.  First you have to seal in all your creativity with paste wax.

A little goes a long way, so wrap a bit of t-shirt or clean cloth around your fingers and rub a thin coat of wax all over the top and edges of the tiles. Make sure to be careful about getting large amounts of wax stuck in the small craters of the tile as it's really hard to get out later. After you've coated all the tiles, they will have changed color slightly but will be protected from the elements.  For the final step, I recommend putting felt feet on the bottom of each tile to protect your furniture.

As I said, a simple, personalizable gift.  Here's some shots of other sets I've made:

If you find yourself with 30-45 minutes to spare or have a last minute Christmas party to attend, craft up a set and don't forget to post some shots of them below!
